Cro-Magnon men arrived on the scene, an arrival neanderthals did not welcome well 38,000 years ago?

Little girl Ayla finds herself wondering the tundra after having lost her mother in an earthquake and thus being separated from her people, the Cro-Magnons.

Or as Neanderthals call them, "the others".

Frightened little Ayla must now fend for herself and soon finds her first major obstacle.

A hungry lion chases her into a small enough cave to leave his claw marks in her leg. But she manages to stay alive.

Weak and wounded she sets out to wander and finally collapses in the middle of nowhere making her easy prey for beasts, there she's found by a clan of neanderthals who, afraid for her life, now must decide what must be done with her.

This comes as more of a course than a blessing for she must now endure sexual abuses, superstitions and customs befitting only for a beast.

But she learns, she becomes patient and continues to learn, soon her advanced intellect will become her greatest asset in a world of taboos.
